{Happiness} comes in so many forms but for most little kids, a simple thing like a tiny puddle can bring a boring, freezing cold Saturday back to life! How appropriate that the day before Week 14’s prompt was up for grabs, Happiness happened in the purest and most exhilarating form. Lots of rain and lots of puddles.
Sadly (?), we live in town and our neighborhood is used as a cut-through to avoid a ridiculous 5-point intersection just up the road so allowing Master J to just run amuck in the road wasn’t really an option, however, it didn’t seem to phase him at all because… puddles.
I purchased a cute little dinosaur raincoat a few weeks prior (Duh! at Target. Where else!?) but still haven’t gotten him rain boots… so his winter boots would have to suffice. I kept asking him if his feet were wet and he repeatedly told me NO, Not Wet! so we stayed out and I froze while I watched him do what he dreamily watched his idol, Peppa Pig, do on nearly every episode: Jumping in muddy puddles! One even came with a drowned worm, which, thankfully, he never noticed or tried to pick up. Bleh. His dad came outside, (secretly in silent horror, haha) and watched our son thoroughly enjoy his little toddler self in the puddles.
When he had finally had enough, he voluntarily walked himself inside where we discovered that his feet were, in fact, soaked, as were his boots, socks, and pants… and it was all worth it. We changed his clothes and then snuggled a bit before we headed out for dinner for the evening. That night, he slept more soundly than he ever had.
