So as well as any Maine birth photography session can go, this one was pretty exciting before I even got there! Katelyn was adamant that she would have this baby ON HER DUE DATE which is not rare but as most of us know, a baby’s arrival date is a toss-up. So a couple of weeks before her due date, I get a call that her water has broken and they are headed to the hospital. They check in periodically and tell me that not much has happened and no one has really checked her to see how far progressed she is. I say cool, call me if anything changes but I am going to take a nap as it was just after dinner time.
In the middle of the night, I get the call. Jacob is on the phone saying, “She’s 9cm… You won’t make it.” That was the first time that the doctor had checked her and said that she would be pushing soon.
Minor detail: I’m at least 45 minutes away from the hospital that they were at. Jacob said that everything was cool as a cucumber and then boom. 9 centimeters. I tell him that I’ll see them soon and he seems disappointed that I won’t make it. I say challenge accepted!
I made it. In the middle of the night, waking from a dead sleep, I managed to fly out of the house in under 2 minutes and drive 45 minutes away (and not get pulled over by the police) to capture something that certainly cannot be recreated! I walked into the room with mere minutes to spare and I was able to capture some of the hard work that Katelyn did!
This image might be my all-time favorite photograph, ever. Lilliana finally got to have her bath and at first she had been pretty angry about being in the water and then suddenly she was so peaceful and just chilled in the sink while the nurse cleaned all of her beautiful black hair.
Welcome to the world, Liliana!!
Click here to see Liliana’s parents’ session before she arrived! and next week there will be a blog entry of Liliana in her new digs and hanging out with her “big brother”…..
