I photographed a thing
It wasn’t a wedding but it sort of felt like it in some aspects…
Some background
In my past life, I was a State of Maine employee working in the Judicial Branch, specifically with Family Law cases as an administrator/manager. A particular organization that I was indirectly involved with during my time was The Kids First Center in Portland, Maine. They do amazing work for children and families navigating the world of divorce and helping parents learn how to co-parent effectively and allowing children to voice their concerns and frustrations throughout the process.
Kids First Center’s Mission
“The Kids First Center’s mission is to minimize the emotional and sometimes physical trauma children experience during the separation and divorce of their parents. The Center opened its doors in 1998, although our history goes back to the 1980’s when a group of professionals saw the importance of filling a gap in Maine’s social services. Our staff, as well as our volunteer board of directors, are thoughtful, caring people, committed to putting “kids first” during a challenging time in their lives.” Find out more about Kids First and the important work that they do.
Fundraising for a good cause
There is a cost associated with their program and through small federal grants and sponsors from businesses and individuals throughout the community, they are able to offer scholarships to those who have been ordered to attend by the Courts or those who wish to attend on their own but are unable to afford it due to a financial hardship. The Kids First Center also holds fundraising events each year and this year they created a new and amazing event called Bloom. What was even more exciting is that they sold out of their available tickets long before the day of the event!
The Amazing Vendors!
They collaborated with so many amazing vendors, many of whom I have worked with at various weddings over the years, and together they created a beautiful evening full of community, delicious food, music, dancing, and an auction full of incredible donations! The professionals who worked at this event knocked it right out of the park! Kids First Center also honored some of the District Court Judges who were awarded with the Kids First Founders Award. The evening was like a mini reunion seeing some of my old colleagues that I have had the pleasure of knowing, some for as many as 15 years!
