Earlier this winter, I had posted the video to this family’s session but I really wanted to go in a little deeper and share some of the still shots that I captured that I particularly loved. Because it was that great. I had the pleasure of photographing this lovely Maine family of 5 which consisted of Mom (a fellow photographer!) and Dad and their 3 energetic and funny kids (ages 4, 2, and 2months) on one fine chilly Saturday morning. They had a painting and craft session that involved lots of glue, pom-poms, and glitter! They played ball and ate snacks and cuddled and danced. They helped mom with the dishes and told stories and sang songs. They climbed and they conquered and they fought nap time (but the kids did not conquer the naptime battle! Rejoice!). It was perfect. In all of its chaotic glory, it was perfect.

Sometimes they just neeeeeed to try your coffee…
Let the crafting begin!
Negotiations.
Seriously… this face! And he sooooo loves his big sister!
Helping mom with the dishes. (Now, if there was some secret recipe so that they continue to want to help with the dishes well into their teens, life would be even more perfect!)
This just made me giggle. I have always dreamed of what it might be like on top of my own kitchen cabinets, but I can’t see up there so I pretend it might be fun. (I can guarantee you that the top of his kitchen cabinets are way better than the top of mine.)
So. Many. Puzzles.
Nap time requires some rebelling.
These are the moments, as parents, we should be capturing and remembering – not just the awards – not just the concerts – not just the first time they walk – and not JUST our kids… We should be in them, too, to show our kiddos that we were there, we were present, and damn it, look how young we were!
