I have always loved film. The softness. The dreamy looks that can be accomplished with film is so different than with digital. I photographed all of my clients with film through 2007 and then hesitantly switched to digital in 2008. I still photograph with film using an old Yashica-A and a mix of medium format films. I adore the Holga b&w.
I was just kicking around one snowy day with the kids and decided to play with some still life. My daughter asked if she could take a few images of me, as well. These are completely unedited and pretty rough scans, but all the same. They’re magical. Here are a few of my favorites.
My friend Patty has been learning about film and got an engaged couple whose wedding she is photographing this summer. They agreed to come freeze their tails off for us as we geeked out with our film cameras. The baby tagged along and was a peach the entire time, despite the cold. (I seriously couldn’t ask for a better baby!) We headed up to Portland’s East End and down to the little beach and clicked a few frames before we had enough of the cold.
These are far from perfect, and yet so very perfect in their own way.
