Summer days in Maine are pretty magical. Add in a Maine island and you have perfection. Kimberly + Charlie planned their Peaks Island wedding to celebrate with their friends and family and in my opinion, they nailed it on the head.
I followed up with Kimberly and Charlie a couple of months later, once the wedding day high had subsided, to ask them to look back on their day and tell me about all of their favorite parts of the day. I also wondered if they would change anything and what were some of their favorite images.
What did you love most about your wedding day? Why?
Kim: The thing I loved most about my wedding day was the person I got to marry. 🙂 I also LOVED my first dance with my husband (“At Last” by Etta James). I also loved our Father/Daughter, Mother/Son dances. Singing along to “Unforgettable” with my dad is something I will cherish and remember forever.
Charlie: I loved the spirit of togetherness and fun throughout the whole wedding day. We had Swedes storming the dance floor when Dancing Queen by ABBA came on, and Mainers and people from DC singing along to Wagon Wheel to end the night. The whole day was a perfect blend of love, laughter, and two families becoming one.
If you could do it all over again, is there anything that you would do differently?
Kim: I wouldn’t do anything differently… Our wedding was perfect to me- and it’s not because we spent a ton of money (we didn’t)..my husband, and our friends and family are what made it perfect for me. 🙂
Charlie: If I were to do it all over again, I would probably go a little bit lighter on the twirls during our “first dance” 😉
What is the best advice that you can offer other couples who are currently planning their wedding?
Kim: my best advice would be to remember to take little moments to gaze into your husband or wife’s eyes on your wedding day! It flies by, but try to remember that this is a celebration of YOUR LOVE- don’t worry too much about making time for everyone else…it will happen organically. They will have have a wonderful time whether or not you say hi to them during your dinner service. 🙂 I would also HIGHLY suggest doing a First Look…it enabled us to really enjoy every part of our wedding (we didn’t have to miss our own cocktail hour)!
Charlie: When planning your wedding, think of a few small details that will really make your day special but always keep the big picture in mind. We thought of three words that we wanted our wedding to relate to. For us, we wanted the wedding to relate to Fun, Family, and Ocean.
What is your most favorite image from your wedding – and WHY is it your favorite?
Kim: I couldn’t pick just one!! These three really stand out to me.
This one, because I think it really captures the spirit of our love and relationship perfectly:
(This one) Because it’s just amazing and makes me laugh!! Haha. Both of Charlie’s Swedish Aunts!:
And this one because it captures the love between mother and son so perfectly:
