Rocky Maine Coastline Family Session in Freeport Maine
I met the S Family on a typical Maine day- sunny, then cloudy, almost rainy, then cloudy- and we utilized Freeport’s rocky Maine coastline for a beautiful setting for their images, along with some fun little wooded trails that we could run along. Their youngest was, of course, not interested in having her photograph taken until we started playing some silly games which dad was more than happy to oblige. After making dad not able to see for a few snaps, we were able to scoot down to the water and grab a few photographs and then we were off searching for some cool shells. We took a little walk in the wooded trails and made some more funny faces and some happy faces for the camera. We ran around in the field and played some more games and then slowed down for a few more photographs again. When your littlest just isn’t digging the idea of sitting still for a photo, you have to be flexible and goof around a little in between. A little silliness also helps loosen up older children who want to behave and make mom and dad happy but maybe they are struggling with their on-demand-grin. (We all know this grin… we all go through this stage at some point in our childhood where something so natural feels so weird! It’s important to let them warm up, too!)
Many clients ask me why on earth would I set aside 1-2 hours for a session because their kid “will only last about 15 minutes” before they grow bored. This isn’t your typical portrait session. Long gone are the days at the Department store setup with one quick shot. No agonizing lines to wait in. These are fun! We play, we run, we snuggle and we smile. Sometimes there are tears with the younger children, but overall, they are few and far between, and I still capture these moments because they are your moments. Whether you are looking for more formal portraits together or the more candid variety, it is important to live in the Now, enjoy your children and not worry about all the little details. xo
