I had received a call from a family up in Brunswick Maine who was looking for a photographer to capture their family once their newest member arrived – as their usual photographer was also due to have a baby around the same time as them! No pressure on my end, whatsoever! It’s a tough thing to fill the shoes of a family’s photographer, one that they had already been using for years. To say that I was honored to be chosen would be an understatement and I hope that I lived up to their expectations!
I was happily greeted by their oldest child, Greta, who was “shy” but warmed up quickly. Their middle child, who had just been ousted as the baby of the family, was slower to warm up but she soon came around once we got upstairs and they showed me their amazing jumping skills! The newest member, Grace, was most complacent and quite sleepy and happily rolled with the (near) punches from her older sisters. These young ladies were an absolute blast to photograph and FULL of energy, stories, and imaginations!
Perhaps one of my most favorite out-takes from any session would be the one of them on the couch and all you can see are Greta’s feet up in the air and mom’s fantastic expression while watching her, and Mary excitedly stares down her pink shoe (and promptly chewed on it soon after). Mary’s enthusiasm for exploring and Greta’s unparalleled imagination for playing pretend and adventures made this session more fun than I could have imagined… and Sweet Grace’s little baby sounds and sleepy persona was almost too much for my heart to contain.
I know that they will be happily back on schedule with their regular photographer for year’s to come, but I was happy and honored to step in to sneak a peek at their life at home together and capture some fun memories for them. <3
