York Harbor in the fall is the perfect backdrop for a portrait session, blending two of my favorite things: the serene beauty of the ocean and the vibrant colors of autumn. The rich oranges and yellows of the trees against the soft blues and greys of the sky and sea create such a stunning contrast, making every shot feel like a work of art. When the M family chose York, Maine, as the spot to gather and spend time together, they also asked me to join in and capture some beautiful portraits. It was a crisp, chilly day, but despite the brisk weather, everyone’s smiles were as warm as could be—proving once again that a great attitude can make the coldest of days feel bright and cheerful. The kids were full of energy and excitement, making the session even more fun and lively!
We shot the portraits at the Hartley Mason Reserve, a hidden gem tucked between the York Harbor Inn and the famous York Harbor Beach. This small but charming park offers the best of both worlds: you’re near the ocean without the hassle of sand, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Whether it’s a summer afternoon with a little shade or a crisp fall day when the elements feel a little more sheltered, it’s one of my favorite places to shoot. The combination of the natural beauty, the peaceful atmosphere, and the location’s versatility make it an ideal spot for family portraits.
The M family absolutely nailed their outfit coordination. They managed to strike the perfect balance between looking polished and still feeling totally relaxed and natural in their clothing choices—a rare but wonderful thing to achieve! It made for some truly stunning photos that I’m sure they’ll cherish for years to come. All in all, it was an unforgettable session, and I’m so glad I got to be a part of it. Here’s to more beautiful fall days and gorgeous family moments in York!
